Q & A
Why did I become a celebrant?
I really love weddings and meeting couples, and the commitment and meaning of marriage too. Being able to pronounce people husband and wife is a real honour.
What is your favourite part of the process?
Meeting a new couple and seeing them relax as they realise they’re in safe hands and that I’ll take care of whatever they need and want during the ceremony .
3. My favourite memories in my career as a celebrant?
Every wedding is memorable. I love writing the story about how they met, fell in love and what brought them to their wedding day .
4. Describe your style in a few words.
Relaxed, organised, nothing is ever too much trouble.
5. Do I ever get emotional during a ceremony?
I always get a bit emotional when the bride walks up the aisle and when the groom sees her for the first time. And, of course, when I pronounce them married.
6. How do I calm a nervous bride or groom?
Part of my job is to keep them both relaxed. It might be with a pause during the ceremony, a reassuring smile or simply a gentle reminder to breathe. There is no rush and we can always just take our time. I also find a bit of general smalltalk before the bride arrives works wonders.
7. What makes a great marriage celebrant?
Getting to know the couple well, being organised and able to take control when necessary but never forgetting this is not about me. Also having your own sound system so everybody can hear you and the couple.
Are you prepared to travel to ?
I have done may weddings in the Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Cambridge Hamilton and Raglan areas but I am more that willing to travel anywhere in the Waikato area.
